Court's story
Cortex Method exists because many driving mistakes aren’t caused by a lack of knowledge or ability but by the effect pressure has on awareness and decision making.
It helps learners understand “why” they struggle when things become busy and challenging as this is something drivers are guaranteed to deal with after passing their test.
What led to developing the method
I've been driving over 10 years and spent many of those years driving professionally as both a van and HGV driver. During that time, I became fascinated by the decisions people make under pressure and why otherwise capable drivers sometimes make poor choices in demanding situations.
When I later became a driving instructor, I noticed the same pattern in learners. Many knew what they should be doing yet when pressure increased, they would rush decisions, miss information or react in ways they couldn't fully explain themselves.
Over time, I came to realise that the challenge often wasn't a lack of skill, but the effect pressure was having on awareness and decision making. Cortex Method grew from a desire to understand those moments and help learners develop a calmer, more deliberate approach to driving so they can think clearly and stay in control when it matters most.
The vision and future.Cortex Method was created from a simple observation. Many mistakes happen not because people lack ability, but because pressure changes the way they think, perceive and respond to situations. While Cortex Method is currently focused on helping people learn to drive, the wider vision is to develop a recognised framework for understanding and managing pressure. Driving is where that journey begins, but the principles of awareness, understanding and deliberate decision making have value far beyond the test itself.
